I shot this photo while on a trek with a few IWSB(www.iwsb.in) aspirants near Khamshet in the interior Maharashtra (June 2009). Women walking miles and miles across swathes of land to a water body to fetch daily drinking water for the family, is a daily affair across the nation. Whether in a city or hinterland, such long, silent, purposeful and lonely journeys of hardships are what a woman undertakes every day irrespective of the social and economic strata she comes from. What am I really doing in my life to alleviate the pains of these lives (even women in my life), is the question that struck me… Every morning begins with a lot of promise… What is my promise?
