Hi folks..how’s everyone doing?
Starting a thread of conversation on our kids’ job experience since graduation.
How’s the job market been and how has being a Srishti graduate helped?
And did that make a difference to the kind of job opportunities that came to them. Or even any other observations you want to share

My responses in the interactions…
Our daughter had a PPO kinds from a well known design entity that she had done her summer project in 2024, but she did not want to join that due to the nonconducive environment…
Since Shrishti did not have placements, she started researching, shortlisting, connecting with design companies, and applying for profiles that she was interested in, by Dec 24.
She started giving interviews immediately after, Jan/Feb 2025 – multiple rounds – in a few that called her, and she started getting final offers by April-May 2025.
Finally she shortlisted 2 entities after talking to people who are already in those entities, and started negotiating for Salaries, and joined one that was giving her great environment for learning, more freedom to decide on what she wants to work on etc.
It has almost been a year now. She feels good about the learning centric environment that has exposed her to work with Engineers, Fabricating products, training in AI for design etc.
She wants to go for her master’s next year. Has zeroed on a few design centric programs/univs in Europe and has started engaging with students in those universities to understand about the program, environment, processes etc.
Hopefully, she will head to one of her shortlisted Univs.

While going through the messages, I recalled my journey in the mid 1980’s, when computer science just took off, and only a handful of entities in computing existed. A couple of students travelled to those entities, mostly in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore then, to pitch our Univ to invite them for a campus visit for placements…as those companies were comfortable to scout talent in the neighborhood IITs, or Engineering colleges…
So, it was mostly an individual effort of travelling to these cities, pitching for self and getting break throughs..

In today’s times, there are humongous resources available at finger tips
– to connect with the institutions and companies of choice
– deep dive to understand them, the professors in their areas of interest
– study their work deeply
– connect with the relevant,
– engage with them through their research, design work, articles, etc
– stoke their curiosity
– seek opportunities to meet
– share your profile and work, seek feedback
– work on the feedback, engage productively…
Over the years, I have seen youth who have a vision for themselves, have clarity on what they want to do, achieve, impact will always find the places they deserve… It may take more time where the environment is not facilitating and conducive, but they will reach their path leading to realizing their potential …

We all need to keep updating ourselves about the emerging possibilities, exciting arenas, and keep backing our children….
I am sure, every child will go and achieve a lot more, than we all did,
– as the possibilities are immense,
– mobility is high,
– many countries have a shortage of manpower, forget about trained
Many countries across the world are throwing open their boundaries (the right wing immigration policies of US, UK, Australia, the usual destinations has come as a blessing for these countries)
Those who are entrepreneurial, especially in areas like design, along with those careers where individual excellence outshines…Youth are consciously making choices to not only gain exposure to cutting-edge work, but also seeking to explore different geographies with an intention of not staying at one place for more than a couple of years…
Work, explore the country(ies) around, and keep moving…
Unlike our generation, in their 30s they have explored enough countries and markets…
And a few are coming back to India with all exposure and experience to initiate their startups, as India is emerging as the start-up capital of the world, with immense size and possibilities…
More power to our children and generations to come…

Being in Srishti is a blessing, especially in the domain of design, as the career itself is all about being out of the box.
Course, pedagogical approach, engagement with industry all are offbeat and professors of NID, IITB and industry leaders in Design fraternity really appreciate the institution and its design .
Design as a discipline is gaining more recognition now and is getting into central role in corporates etc. I foresee, these corporates themselves will start chasing institutions like Srishti in the next couple of years, provided the institution becomes stronger without getting lost and kowtowing to the whims and fancies of the Manipal ocean!!
Interestingly, Manipal has taken Srishti under its wings only because of the way Design discipline is gaining significance.
The campus of Srishti now is well equipped and Insti can fly high standing on its own values and principles. I hope Manipal leadership understands this and helps the institution evolve to gain more glory, and not muffle the creativity and values that founders of Srishti instilled!!
