I had recorded for a program on #AIR, All India Radio/#Akashvani which was broadcast on the #National Program of Talks on 30th April at 9:30pm. – The Perils of #Helicopter #Parenting.
Topic: ‘The perils of helicopter parenting!’
Scope: The term “helicopter parent” was first used in Dr. Haim Ginott’s book Parents & Teenagers (1969) in reference to teens who said their parents would hover over them like a helicopter! Helicopter parenting refers to a style of parents who are over focused on their children.
The term became popular enough to become a dictionary entry in 2011. Similar terms include ‘lawnmower parenting,’ ‘cosseting parent,’ or ‘bulldoze parenting.’
This programme focused on the genesis and amelioration of over-controlling, overprotecting and over-perfecting parenting which is detrimental both to the child and parent in the longer run.
Panelists:
1. Ms. Divya Jain, well known psychologist.
2. Sh. R. Sreenivasan eminent educationist & mentor.
3. Sh. Vratesh parmar, IT professional & helicopter father
4. G. Rajaraman, media personality (moderator).
